Review: To Love and to Cherish

Book Review: To Love and to Cherish, by Lauren Layne

Alexis Morgan has spent the past eight years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.
Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable...until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis...

Review: To Love and to Cherish is  is book 3 in the Wedding Belles series by Lauren Layne, following To Have and to Hold and For Better or Worse and while it is well written and the romance is hot, I still felt a bit disappointed after reading it.

I've been pinning for Logan and Alexis' story ever since book one, and now that it's here I realize it's not exactly as I expected. Because, frankly, it doesn't make sense that Logan would wait eight years if he was so in love with her from day one, and it doesn't make sense that Alexis never noticed. Actually, I can't quite decide if she never noticed or if she did and chose to ignore it, because she seems to alternate between those two points of view. But still - eight years? Eight years that Alexis has been pinning for her ex-boyfriend only to realize at the end that she did love Logan from the start after all? And a confident man like Logan has sat and waited without making so much as a move, and then only decides to make a move after his father summons him back to London to take over the family business? I couldn't stop asking myself what would have happened if his father had not made the call - would have Logan just waited until he was old and gray?

So, while the book does have a few secondary plots, it mostly revolves about Logan and Alexis going back and forth. There are a couple of funny scenes to lighten the mood, but after a while it just gets boring. I did like the epilogue, though. with Logan going back to where they first met to propose. I just wish he hadn't waited eighth years to to it.

For Better or Worse (book 2) is still my favorite book in this series and the one I mostly recommend, and it can be easily read stand alone. Books 1 and 3 are OK, but not much more than that. I do love the covers of all of them, though, those are just perfect.

Happy readings,
