Known as a brazen philanderer, Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, is almost done in by a vengeful mistress who aims a gun at a rather essential part of his anatomy—but ends up wounding his thigh instead. Recuperating in his London townhouse, Hayden is confronted by his new medical attendant. Sophia Camden intrigues him, for behind her starched uniform is an enticing beauty better suited for bedding than dispensing salves and changing bandages.
Unshaken by his arrogance, not to mention impropriety, Sophia offers Hayden a dare: allow her ten days to prove her competency. If she resigns in exasperation like her two predecessors, she will be beholden to this wicked seducer. As a battle of wills begins, Sophia finds herself distracted by the earl’s muscular physique . . . and discovers that the man within longs only for a second chance to love.

Genre: historical romance

Review: Never Dare a Wicked Earl, despite the "wicked" title, is a book about second chances and new beginnings, but also misunderstandings, lots of untold secrets and unsaid truths. I loved the plot, and the love story between Hayden and Sophia, but several times through the book I wished they could be honest with each other for a change, instead of pursuing that strange game of cat and mouse they seemed intent on playing. Of the two, Hayden is clearly my favorite character as he, for all his roguish ways, has a good heart and is fiercely protective of his loved ones. But all their going back and forth and all their secrets just seemed to elongate the book a bit too much and more than once I found myself ready to turn the page (or a few pages) to get to the next scene.

Overall, though, Never Dare a Wicked Earl is still a very pleasant read and the happily ever after is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Recommended.

Also, stay tuned for the next book in the series, Never Deceive a Viscount (The Infamous Lords), which will be out by May 2018!
